Creating a Team

Create a team, invite and accept players, use team chat and the home, and leave, transfer or disband.

Every step here works from the menus (/team) or from a command. Players need optimalteams.use, which everyone has by default.

Run /team without a team and the hub menu opens. Click Create a Team, or run:

/team create <name>

Without a name (/team create, or the hub button), a prompt asks for one. By default the prompt is in chat: type the name, or cancel to stop. Server owners can switch the prompt to an anvil, sign or dialog with Settings.Prompt-Mode in config.yml.

A name must:

  • be between Name-Min-Length and Name-Max-Length characters (default 3 to 16)
  • fully match Name-Pattern (default letters, numbers and underscores)
  • not match any Blacklisted-Names entry (defaults block admin*, *staff* and *owner*)
  • not already be used by another team, ignoring case

The creator becomes the Leader. A new team starts with 0 points, no home, and friendly fire and open joining set to Default-Friendly-Fire / Default-Open (both off by default). Creating a team also clears any invites the player still had.

With Broadcast-Creation: true, the whole server is told about the new team.

Open Team Members from the team menu and click Invite Player, or run:

/team invite <player>
  • You need the Invite role permission (Leader, Co-Leader and Moderator by default).
  • The player must be online and not in a team.
  • The team must have a free seat (Max-Members, default 8).
  • One pending invite per team per player. An invite expires after Invite-Expiry seconds (default 300).

The invited player gets a chat message with the accept and deny commands, and the rest of the team is notified.

The invited player can:

  • run /team accept <team> (or /team join <team>), or
  • run /team deny <team>, or
  • open Team Invites from the hub (or /team invites): left click an invite to join, right click to decline.

The seat limit is checked again at the moment of joining, so a team that filled up in the meantime refuses the join. New members always start as Member. Joining a team drops all other pending invites.

A team with Open Joining enabled (settings menu, needs the Open role permission) can be joined by anyone with /team join <team>, no invite needed. The seat limit still applies.

Team chat. While chat mode is on, everything you type in chat goes to online team members only, formatted by TEAM-CHAT. Chat mode is turned off when you leave the team or log out. Answers to a chat prompt are never sent to the team.

Team home. /team home counts down Home-Warmup seconds (default 3). Moving to another block cancels it. After the teleport, the player waits Home-Cooldown seconds (default 30) before the next one. The home world must be loaded. Set Home-Warmup: 0 to teleport instantly.

Friendly fire. While off, damage between two members of the same team is cancelled, both melee and projectiles they shoot. Hurting yourself is not affected.

  • Leave: the Leave Team button or /team leave. Opens the confirm menu. The leader cannot leave; they must transfer leadership or disband first.
  • Transfer: /team transfer <player>, leader only. Opens the confirm menu. The new leader takes over and the old leader becomes Co-Leader.
  • Disband: the Disband Team button or /team disband, leader only. Opens the confirm menu and deletes the team, its home and its points for good. Every member is notified, and with Broadcast-Disband: true the whole server is too.

Anyone who leaves, is kicked, or loses their team to a disband has their open team menus closed.

Admins can disband or rename any team with /teamadmin disband <team> and /teamadmin rename <team> <name>.
